VIDEO: US Ambassador cautions Ghana about potential loss of LGBTQ investors, American businesses

Virginia Palmer, the US ambassador to Ghana, has praised Ghana’s tolerance and cautioned against potential discrimination, especially directed at the LGBTQ community.

She highlighted Ghana’s strength and stability as an investment destination, largely attributed to interfaith and interethnic harmony within the society.

Ambassador Palmer emphasized the significance of maintaining a welcoming and tolerant atmosphere, particularly in relation to LGBTQ individuals. She noted that any discrimination against the LGBTQ community could send a negative message to American investors, potentially impacting investment in the country.

During her remarks on the sidelines of the US-Ghana Business Expo, she emphasized the importance of economic recovery and signaled that Ghana is open for business. She mentioned that the special trade delegation from the US, known as the Global Diversity and Inclusion delegation, included representatives from various backgrounds, such as the National Black Chamber, women-owned businesses, LGBTQ-owned businesses, and Native American owned businesses.

The US has openly expressed support for LGBTQ rights and has voiced concerns about Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ bill, which is pending consideration in the country’s parliament. Ambassador Palmer’s comments reflect the ongoing diplomatic discussions between the US and Ghana regarding human rights and inclusivity.
