VIDEO: Chef Smith has now cooked for over 260 hours, beats Chef Faila’s record of 227 hours

Chef Smith, a chef from Ghana, is about to shatter the record for the longest cooking marathon by a single person on the Guinness World Record. He has now cooked for more than 260 hours, breaking the previous record of 227 hours that was held by Faila Abdul-Razak, another Ghanaian chef.

Chef Smith, whose true name is Kwame Smith, began his cook-a-thon at Accra’s Amadia Shopping Center on February 1, 2024, and aims to conclude on March 6, 2024. In an attempt to break the record, he plans to cook for a total of 360 hours, or 15 days.

He has been cooking a variety of foods from other nations and areas, and the general public, lawmakers, and celebrities have all supported him and given him money. Additionally, he has been live-broadcasting his cook-a-thon on YouTube and Twitter.

Chef Smith claims that his goal in participating in the cook-a-thon is not to discredit Chef Faila but rather to push himself and demonstrate his aptitude and passion for cooking. He adds that his cook-a-thon is not an impromptu or spontaneous endeavor, and that he submitted an application for permission to the Guinness World Records in September 2020.

It’s terrible that people tend to draw conclusions too quickly. In my case, for example, I’m not getting the support I need from the public because Ghanaians believe my attempt to have a cook-a-thon is an attempt to discredit Faila’s record.

“That is far from it, what I’m doing is not to rival Faila or anyone at all. It is an ambition that I started pursuing last year after getting the inspiration from Nigeria’s Hilda Baci who did hers in May. I applied in July but was turned down.

“God being so good, I was given the green light in September last year and it’s just a coincidence that the time I’m ready is coming right after that of another Ghanaian,” he told Graphic Showbiz in an interview on Tuesday, February 6.

Chef Smith is an international executive chef who graduated from National University’s College of Tourism and Hospitality Management in the Philippines.

He claims that Hilda Baci of Nigeria, who set the record in May 2020 with 93 hours, was an inspiration to him. Alan Fisher of Ireland, on the other hand, smashed the record in June 2020 with 119 hours and 57 minutes.
